SENDING DIGITAL FILES

If you are using a digital camera, make sure it is at least 6 megapixel and set at the best quality, Large JPG Fine in most cases.

If you are using a scanner to scan prints use 600 DPI and expect to use the image no bigger than than the print scanned. The file will be huge and that is good! Retouch any white/black specks or hair lines.....they need clean work!

FILE SIZE: JPG files are what GraphiStudio uses to create the books. When looking at file size via your WIN or MAC operating system it will look small. Often less the 5 MB. This is because the JPG file type is a compressed style file. To determine the actual size of the file you have to open it in a Image Editor like PhotoShop, Paint Shop Pro or the like.

Good file: 12-50 MB open. - Acceptable file: 10 MB shot with a good digital camera. Save the file in RGB mode, using jpeg format and set the compression rate at best quality (highest number or pull the bar totally to the right 10-12). Remember to assign sRGB profile to file for Photographic Paper Printing.

We have seen good results from Prosumer 5-8 MG cameras when Shot on the largest settings!

NON PHOTOGRAPHER ADVICE: Do not mess with JPG files. Let GraphiStudio do it. Just make sure your photographer gives you Hi Resolution image files or some call them Digital Negatives.

.

This later term is just a way for you to feel comfortable getting the real digital image. It is not a negative...just a transition term for newbies who don't know anything about digital photography!

FUTURE IS NOW: Soon almost everyone will be shooting digital...just check out VISTA, MAC OS systems and the number of emails with JPG images embedded in them. Sales of film cameras is in the toilet......some manufacturers now only make amateur film cameras...

TECHIE FOLKS:

NEVER DO THIS - Open a image file and make it bigger and save over Original. ALWAYS SAVE AS and give new file name by adding a letter or number to the file. i.e. DSC_0101.jpg becomes DSC_0101a.jpg

Saving the file as a bigger file size than the original interpolates your files. Fills in the spaces will guessed information with no detail. Things go bad fast. So keep the size of the file the same!

For example if sometimes you have nothing better than a 6 MB file (or even lower), we prefer the file as is, instead of a bigger file because it’s interpolated. -Don’t send more pictures / files than suggested in the balanced book Layout Chart (below). Please call us if you have any questions on saving your digital images. This will avoid delays in your book production

IF YOU WANT TO OBTAIN A GOOD QUALITY BOOK PRODUCED FROM PRINTS, PLEASE CONSIDER THAT THE PRINTS MUST BE 5x7, 8x8, 7x10, 8x10 PRINTED IN SMOOTH PAPER NOT LUSTRE (E) SURFACE FOR SCANNING PURPOSES.
