Large =
10x10 Album - Holds 10 x 10 or 8 X 10 V or H - largest print
Medium = 8x8 Album - Holds 8" x 8" - largest print
Junior = 7x7 Album - Holds 7" x 7" - largest print or 5"

Compact = 6x6 Album - Holds 4 x 6 Prints
Small = 5x5 Albums - Holds 5" x 5" largest print

Mats may have more than one opening
to hold prints.
The album size will determine what prints can fit in an album.
Understanding this mat guide:

100 numbered mats hold one print

200 numbered mats hold two prints

300 numbered mats hold three prints

400 numbered mats hold four prints

500 numbered mats hold a 5x7 and another size

600 numbered mats - Special Cuts
First number defines the window cut out.
Number in Square defines the print size.
Letter defines the album size.
For example a single window mat is a 101 mat. It is made for 10x12, 9x11, 8x11, 8x10, 7x10, 6x8, 5x10, 5x7, 4x5 Print sizes.
So you might need a 101-8x10 and a 101-5x7 mat to use with your 8x10 and 5x7 print respectively.

As a suggestion: Select Album size you want first. For example a 10x10 Bridal Album. This equals a Large Album. The mats that have L you can use in your album. A 5x5 5x5 Parent Album is a Small album. So look for S within the guide.
